01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled on the sun-kissed Gulf Boulevard of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, Kooky Coconut is a delightful culinary escape that perfectly captures the vibrant flavors of Cuban cuisine and the refreshing charm of a classic ice cream parlor. This casual restaurant and ice cream shop serves up an irresistible mix of bold, authentic flavors and beachside ease—making it an essential stop whether you’re craving a hearty lunch or a cool sweet treat after a day in the sun.

The star attraction at Kooky Coconut is undoubtedly their Tampa Cuban sandwich, widely praised by patrons as some of the best Cuban fare found anywhere. Imagine biting into freshly handmade Cuban bread, warm and hot-pressed to golden perfection, encasing generous layers of moist, mojo-marinated roast pork, savory ham, Genoa salami, pickles, Swiss cheese, and their signature Cuban sauce. This sandwich strikes a masterful balance between smoky, tangy, and melty—a true symphony of taste that satisfies deeply and leaves a lasting impression. For those wanting a slight twist, the Island Cuban brings in fresh pesto and onions, elevating the classic with a bright, herbaceous note.

If sandwiches aren’t your vibe, the menu also features classic burgers and wraps that hit the spot with fresh, quality ingredients—from a simple yet flavorful Cheeseburger on a soft kaiser roll to a hearty Double Cheeseburger boasting two juicy patties and melted cheese. Their Tuna Salad options, available as both sandwiches and flour wraps, offer a lighter but equally satisfying alternative, perfect for a midday meal by the beach.

What truly sets Kooky Coconut apart is their rich ice cream selection, an absolute must for both locals and visitors alike. Customers rave about the creamy texture and generous flavors of their scoops: from a simple Single Ice Cream cup to indulgent Milkshakes and Malted Milkshakes that bring back that nostalgic joy of beachfront treats. The Salted Caramel Praline Pecan flavor, in particular, is highlighted by many as decadently good, combining sweet and salty to perfection. For those wanting a return to childhood favorites, the iconic Superman ice cream is available, sparking a wave of fond memories with every bite.

The dining atmosphere here matches the food’s colorful personality—a relaxed, quirky space that embodies the laid-back beach vibe of Indian Rocks. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or treating yourself to a leisurely ice cream break, the friendly staff and thoughtful service make every visit feel special and welcoming. Guests appreciate the genuine friendliness of the employees and how efficiently they manage to deliver quality food without sacrificing warmth or care.

One visitor perfectly summed up their experience: “The flavor of the fillings put into pressed fresh bread made it a great sandwich. By far the best Cuban I’ve ever had.” Another shared a heartfelt connection, “Been coming here since I was a child... amazing ice cream and perfect beach food.” It’s this blend of authentic taste and community spirit that makes Kooky Coconut a true gem in this coastal town.

Whether you’re a local craving a nostalgic bite or a traveler seeking an authentic taste of Cuban sandwiches paired with creamy ice cream refreshment, Kooky Coconut delivers with passionate flair and persistent quality. Stop by 760 Gulf Blvd for a flavorful journey that’s every bit as fun and vibrant as the beachside setting it calls home.

This place is a real gem. Ordered their original Tampa Cuban and it was as good as the hype. Plenty of pork, ham, pickles, and cheese to fill it. The flavor of the fillings put into pressed fresh bread made it a great sandwich. By far the best Cuban I’ve ever had. The location and decor adds on to the cool beach vibe you gotta love. Was a perfect grab for a lunch on the beach

Been coming here since I was a child, I am now closer to my 30’s. There’s a reason this place is still around. Super cute inside for one, amazing icecream and perfect beach food and quick service. I always get the Superman icecream since it was a staple for me as a child.

I stumbled upon this little gem while on vacation in the Tampa area and it did not disappoint! I grabbed some ice cream and a fresh coconut, and both were absolutely refreshing and delicious. The ice cream was creamy, flavorful, and perfect for the warm weather, while the fresh coconut was naturally sweet and hydrating exactly what I needed on a sunny day. The spot has a relaxed, friendly vibe, making it perfect for a quick treat while exploring the area. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Tampa and craving something sweet and refreshing!

We stopped in for a last minute bite to eat for lunch. It was our first visit. The employees were friendly and helpful with the menu. Our Island Cuban did not disappoint. My husband and I shared a 9" sandwich and that was plenty They cut and divided it between two baskets. Before we left we had ice cream. I inquired as to where it was made because I am an ice cream snob and didnt want anything I can buy myself in a store. The girl at the counter pointed out that Yoders (brown bins) were homemade Our flavors were delish! Pumpkin Swirl, salted praline pecan, rum raisin and Kahlua espresso I definitely recommend going here and supporting local.

It is a very nice place to grab some ice cream or other food right next to public beach access in Indian Rocks Beach. The service staff all three times that we stopped were pleasant and accommodated our grandson's peanut allergy. Prices are very reasonable. I wish that I could have tried their Cuban sandwich. Friends told me it's the best in the area. Next time, I will.

Great spot for a quick bite and some good ice cream. The Tampa Cuban was awesome. Hot, melty cheese, and crisp bread. Great sandwich. They make a 4 1/2 inch on that's nice if you're not needing a ton of food. Nice beach vibe with beach access right next door. I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in the area.

Stepping into Kooky Coconut Café feels like finding a little tropical treasure by the sea. The atmosphere is cozy, cheerful, and full of sunshine — a perfect place to pause, breathe, and enjoy. Here I discovered the freshest coconut with lemon — so simple, so pure, yet so magical. And my companion ordered their Anleche Ice coffee — smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. Together it was the perfect balance — tropical lightness and gentle energy. Alongside, the café offers a wonderful variety: ice creams, craft cakes, sandwiches, and salads — all served with love and a smile. Every detail makes you feel at home — warm, cared for, and welcomed. Kooky Coconut Café is not just a café, it’s a gentle embrace in the middle of the day. Thank you for your hospitality — the world feels brighter with you in it.
